Doris Banham Dog Rescue

Did you know that lost and abandoned dogs picked up by dog wardens and the police and placed in council pounds may only have ONE WEEK TO LIVE!

The pounds are only required to hold lost and abandoned dogs for SEVEN DAYS and on the EIGHTH DAY are entitled to destroy them if they are not reclaimed by owners or taken by rescues.

Dogs end up in pounds through no fault of their own. Some are much loved lost pets or their owners have sadly died; but many are the innocent victims of an uncaring and throwaway society. They are abandoned because they need medical treatment, have been abused, are no longer the cute puppy purchased at Christmas, are victims of marriage break-downs etc etc. Sadly with so many strays being brought in every day, many of these lovely dogs lose their lives simply because there is no kennel space to hold them.

We save 100s of pound dogs from destruction every month. Our dedicated volunteers drive them all over he country in our old worn-out van to find SAFE rescue places with non-destruction policies.
If a rescue place cannot be found in time to save the dog’s life, we pay for a temporary boarding place until we can move the dog to rescue.

We are funded solely by donation and 100% of funds are spent on the dogs.
We pay for veterinary treatment and all transport and boarding costs.
We manage on so little money yet our bills are so high.

Squirrel | Greyhound
Squirrel is a six year old blue Greyhound.  She has had a hard life as she was raced then retired, bred from and then used as a working dog so it's time she got to put her paws up and learn how to be a pet for the first time in her life.  Squirrel is currently staying in a foster home as to us with an 18 week old puppy also needing a home.  Squirrel cannot be rehomed with small furries due to her past and we would only recommend she is rehomed either as an only dog or with a medium to large dog. They are happily sharing her foster home with two American Bull Dogs and is absolutely fine.  Squirrel's daughter also needs a home and can be rehomed with small furries as she's young enough to adapt.  Their foster Mum says "you will fall in love with them and I need to rehome quick before I get too attached (nearly too late) they are so sweet and picked up the house training really quickly"   Both dogs are in foster near Retford, Nottinghamshire.  Please call their foster Mum for further information - 07716241348.

Sandy | Cross Breed (Small)
Sandy is approx eight years old. She came so close to being put to sleep as the pound was full and she had not been claimed (this is her photo from her stay in the pound). She's now in foster with female terrier and has begun to play with her. Sandy is ok being left for few hours, house trained, good on lead and loves sleeping on the bed! Although not food aggressive, she does love her food and chases Maisy out the room barking if Maisy comes into room while she's eating! You can stroke her or pick up bowl while she's eating, just doesn't like other dogs near her. She loves cuddles and will snuggle next to you on the sofa. Would suit an active retired couple as she likes following you around all day then snoozing when she can. Probably not rehomed with young children as they would be too much for her. Sandy is in a foster home in Lincoln please call Wendy on 07766124364.

Wolfie | Cross Breed (Large)
Wolfie is a gorgeous male German Shepherd cross aged around 3 years. He’s very easy to walk, the kennels describe him as “a really nice dog” and is incredibly friendly greeting you with a waggy tail and friendly face. Wolfie can be a bit grumpy with other dogs so would probably be best rehomed as the only canine in the family. Wolfie has the most fantastic ears which are huuuggee and is really unusual being very German Shepherd but with a brindle coat! A dog to stand out from the others in the park. Video and link to more photos - http://s592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/dorisbanham/Wolfie/ Jan Dodson, Coningsby, Lincolnshire - Tel 07597048743 All dogs are rehomed subject to a satisfactory home check and a minimum donation of £100 (to cover some of the cost of neutering and vaccinations etc). If you wish, a home check can be carried out prior to visiting the kennels. This will enable you to take your new family member home on the same day.

Diesel | American Bulldog

Diesel - http://s592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/dorisbanham/Diesel/   Diesel is an American Bull Dog who came into our care with Maddie (a female American Bull dog).  Diesel is around two years old.  In the kennel environment he hasn't been great with other dogs although we understand that this wasn't the case when in a home.  Even so, we'd prefer to rehome Diesel as the only dog in the household.  Due to his age and breed, he's a powerful and energetic dog and will need an owner experienced in larger breeds of dogs.  He's a really wonderful boy who sat really nicely and enjoyed some love and fuss through the kennel bars.  You can't help but love him.

Currently kennelled in Treswell, Nottinghamshire please call Louise on 0754 6594296 to arrange an appointment.  Please bear with us when ringing as we are very short staffed as Louise is employed by the kennel not by the rescue.  Mon to Sat 10am - 6pm, Sun 10am – 4pm.

Max | Staffie Cross

Max is a really lovely medium to large Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross.  He has now been kennelled with us since May 2009 and we think he has been overlooked as he is such a big dog however, he really is a sweetheart.  He loves cuddles and can be a bit of a Mummy's Boy given half a chance (when his mates aren't looking) yet is still young enough to bound around like a puppy when he's let off the lead.  Max really is a fantastic dog and seems fine with other canines.  Please rescue this great dog.  He'll be sadly missed but it's really time he found his forever home.

Fritz | Staffie Cross
Fritz is a five year old medium to large Terrier cross.  He has now been kennelled with us since April 2009 and we think he has been overlooked as he is such a big dog.  He's a really lovely fawn and white colouring and similar markings to a Boxer (may even be some Boxer in his blood as he's a similar build).  Fritz is a really happy friendly lad.  He's always very happy to see you with a waggy tail.  As he's been with us for so long he's always so pleased and excited to get out of his kennel and is torn between going off and exploring the smells, having a good run around and enjoying a cuddle.  Fritz will need to be rehomed as the only dog in the household.  We cannot fault this boy.  He's fantastic.  Can anyone out there offer this long term a forever home and make our day and his life?

Cherub | Staffordshire Bull Terrrier
Cherub is a two year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  Cherub would need to be rehomed as the only dog as she isn't a fan of other canines.  Cherub will need an experienced dog owner who can be firm but fair with her.  She's quite a strong willed girl who isn't enjoying being kennelled as she just wants to be around you.  She gets sooo excited when you let her out the kennel it's like she has a spring on her bum!  Pogo maybe a more appropriate name!  On the way back from being rescued from the dog pound she managed to escape from a metal dog cage to then sit in the front seat of the van with our volunteer driver where she happily continued the rest of the journey to the kennels!!  She's a real character but will need some clear boundaries to ensure she doesn't run rings around you.  Cherub has some very minor damage to the skin around one of her eyes where we suspect she has suffered an injury as a pup.  A lovely little girl and will present some challenges but we are sure she'll be worth the effort.   Video http://s592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/dorisbanham/Cherub/

Kennelled in Spalding, Lincs.  Please call 01406 540211.
